WiFi network adaptor in available network adaptors

In this guide we will connect your router wirelessly to the internet. In order to connect your router wirelessly you must ensure you have a wifi network adaptor installed on your computer.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer
|

Since we want to go wireless we will first disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer.

Disconnect the other end of the Ethernet cable from your router's LAN port

Next, disconnect the other end of the Ethernet cable from your router’s LAN port.

Select your WiFi network adaptor and configure it to get an IP address from your router

Go to your desktop, move the mouse pointer over My Network Places and Right-click the My Network Places icon to view the menu. Go to Properties in the menu and left click the mouse to select. Choose from the list of network connections the Wireless network adaptor you wish to connect to your router with. Then right click Wireless Network Connection, and move to Properties in menu; left click to select. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), highlight this and hit the Properties button. Select both Obtain an IP address automatically, and Obtain DNS server automatically, then click OK.

View available WiFi networks, and connect to your network

Right-click the My Network Places icon on your desktop, and go to Properties in menu and left click to select. Right click Wireless Network Connection and move down to "View Available Wireless Networks". Left-click to select. The available WiFi networks are listed – click my_new_network, and connect. You may see other wireless networks which are located nearby. But having named your network earlier it is now easy to select your very own network!

Open Internet Explorer, type a web address (digidave.co.uk) into the address bar, and hit Enter

Ok, lets get surfing the web! Open Internet Explorer, type a web address (digidave.co.uk) into the address bar, and hit Enter. Success! Your new network is connecting to the web.
