Connecting and installing a USB WiFi adaptor.

In this guide we will look at connecting and installing a USB WiFi adaptor. First, identify a free USB port on your computer.

Insert the end of the cable of

Insert the end of the cable of the USB WiFi adaptor into the free USB port on your computer. If your USB WiFi adaptor is the cableless kind, insert it straight into the free USB port.

Windows XP will automatically
see your new piece of hardware,

Windows XP will automatically see your new piece of hardware. A pop up balloon should appear in the tool bar in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. This should state that your machine has "Found New Hardware". If prompted, insert the CD that came with the WiFi adaptor.

Check your USB WiFi adaptor is installed

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Your network adaptor is now installed. To make sure it's working correctly go to your desktop, locate the My Network Places icon, move the mouse pointer over it and click the right mouse button. A menu will appear; select Properties by clicking the left mouse button.

You will see that the your WiFi adaptor has been added to the list of available network connections - it's called Wireless Network Connection. Success! Your WiFi Network adapter is now correctly installed.
