This guide describes how to install a PCI WiFi card in your PC. First shut down your computer.

Open your computer's case.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next, open your computer's case. If you are unsure how to do this you should refer to your computers manual.

 

Step 4:

Identify a free PCI slot. Unscrew the plate, if there is a plate present.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once the case has been removed you need to identify an available PCI slot. It is important to be careful when handling the hardware inside your computer's case. If the PCI slot has a plate, unscrew it.

 

Step 5:

Insert the card into the PCI slot, taking care to orient it correctly. Push the card into the slot to seat it firmly. Insert and tighten the screw that holds the card in place.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now that your available PCI slot is ready, to go you can go ahead and insert the card. Take care, making sure you orient the card correctly. Push the card into the slot and make sure it is seated firmly. Insert and tighten the screw that holds the card in place.

 

Step 6:

Put the cover back on the PC.

Replace the cables.

Power on your computer.

Step 9:

Windows XP will automatically see your new piece of hardware.

 

 

 

 

 

 

When your computer boots up, and your desktop appears, Windows XP will automatically see your new piece of hardware. A pop up balloon will appear in system tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. This should state that your machine has "Found New Hardware".

 

Step 10:

If asked insert the CD that came with your network adapter. The CD will run you through installing the relevant software.

Step 11:

Verify your network adaptor is installed by checking your network properties.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Your network adaptor is now installed. To make sure it is working correctly go to your desktop, locate the My Network Places icon, move the mouse pointer over it and click the right mouse button. A menu will appear; move the pointer down and select Properties by clicking the left mouse button.

Your new network adaptor is has been added to the list of available network adaptors.

 

 

 

 

 

 

A new menu will open and will display an icon called Local Area Connection. Success! You will see that the network card you installed has been added to the list of available network connections.Your network card is now correctly installed.
