Connecting Network Addressable Storage (NAS) to a network.

Step 1:

Take the cover off the disk case to reveal the board inside

 

 

 

 

 

In this guide we'll connect network addressable storage, or NAS, to a network.
First, take the cover off the disk case to reveal the board inside.

 

Step 2:

Connect the IDE cable to the hard disk

 

 

 

 

 

Connect the internal IDE cable to the IDE socket on the IDE hard disk.

 

Step 3:

Connect the internal power supply connector to the IDE hard disk

Screw the hard disk onto the board

Step 5:

Locate the LED cable on the cover, and slide the cover partially on

Connect the LED cable connector to the board

Step 7:

Slice the cover all the way on, then screw the base on

 

 

 

 

 

Slice the cover all the way on, then screw the base on. This secures the cover and the disk inside.

 

Step 8:

Locate the Ethernet port on your computer and connect the Ethernet cable to it

Connect the power supply to the hard disk case

Plug the power supply into an available power outlet

Power on the unit

Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the hard disk case

The LAN link light at the computer's LAN port lights, indicating a physical connection has been established

Step 14:

Ensure your network connection is set to get an IP address automatically

 

 

 

 

 

Ensure your network connection is set to get an IP address automatically. Right-click My Network Places, move to properties in the menu and left click. Right click Local Area Connection, move to Properties, and left-click. Go to Internet Protocol TCP/IP, and hit properies. Make sure both Obtain and IP address automatically, and Obtain DNS server automatically are selected.

 

Step 15:

Now to log into the hard disk. Open a web browser, and type http://storage and hit Enter. The username is admin, the password, admin

Step 16:

Go to IP Configuration, and change the IP address to a static IP address in your router's range. Here, we've changed the IP address to 10.2.2.25

Step 17:

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your PC and connect it to a free LAN port on your router

Step 18:

Open a web browser, and type http://storage and hit Enter. The username is admin, the password, admin

Step 19:

If the hard disk inside the case is new, you'll need to format it. Go to Disk Utility in the menu,and click Format

Step 20:

To make a folder to share, click Folder Share, and give the folder an name.

Step 21:

Map the shared folder as a network drive by right clicking My Computer and clicking Map Network Drive. Enter in the path box \\storage and the folder name from the previous step

Step 22:

Your NAS is now installed on your network.
